get those bills crisp!

This DIY tip comes from our dear friend MamaPoRuski who is getting ready to bring her newest daughter home from Ukraine.

'Money laundering is illegal...
But ironing out the wrinkles with a little spray starch is not!
I kid you not!
We were unable to order new bills from our bank for this adoption. Seems that the last time we did this in 2007, it caused such a headache for them that the bank made a policy against it.
We knew we were trend setters!
No matter, the grant we are getting to cover our facilitator fees is not being wired to us until tomorrow so we don't even have time to order new money.
Our tellers have known us for years and there are three branches we go to. They have been very helpful to let us pick through their tills for the newest and crispest bills.
One suggested we iron out the wrinkles of "almost new" bills.
Guess what?
It works!
At first I ironed a $20 just in case I scorched it. (Nothing like catching a $100 bill on fire with an iron!)
So just a suggestion for our traveling friends, don't sweat wrinkled bills, just iron them with a light spritz of spray starch!

We're nearing the end of our adoption from Haiti (it's been nearly two years - ugh). Anyway, I'm not very familiar with the Ukranian process. Why are crisp bills needed?

Congratulations on our adoption!
Crisp bills are needed because the money exchange agencies want *new* bills. They'll accept nothing less. If you bring money that has tears, marks or is wrinkled to the country, you won't be able to use it.
This is the case in most of Eastern Europe...and possibly Asia. Can anyone confirm?
